Jason “Jay” Green of Brooklyn, NY passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on November 17, 2018 after an illness with Alzheimer’s. He was preceded in death by his sister Vicki Green, and parents Mae and Leo Green who were Russian immigrants.
Jay was born in Brooklyn on July 6, 1942. He was raised in Brooklyn, but spent the last 20 years in Berkeley Heights, NJ. Jay was a loving husband; father, brother, uncle, coach, and friend. Surviving are his wife Susan Mardini Green, step-daughter Cristina Girgis who was like a father, Sister Penny Green and her Partner Alice Brown.
Jay went to the elite Brooklyn Tech HS and received a Full Scholarship to Cornell University where he graduated with honors, with a degree in economics. He attended Brooklyn Law School for two years and decided at the end that he wanted to pursue his true passion which was Tennis. He was a tennis pro at Prospect Park Tennis Center and Knickerbockers Tennis Club for over 50 years. A philanthropist, Jay took on many young aspiring tennis students who couldn’t afford to pay for lessons. Also, during this time Jay built and managed a thriving real estate business in Park Slope, Brooklyn. He will be deeply missed by anyone who had the fortune to meet or interact with him-his smile and dynamic personality lit up a room.
A Memorial Service celebrating the life of Jay Green will be held at the Prospect Park Picnic House, Prospect Park West and 3rd Street, Brooklyn, NY, on Sunday, December 9, 2018 from 1-5pm. To honor Jay’s life, a Tennis Scholarship Fund has been set up to help needy youth who have the desire to play tennis, details of which will be provided at the Memorial.
